ASG Saturday, February 7, 2009 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM Holiday Inn – This is a fun and easy sweatshirt jacket! The fronts and back are composed of 4 ½” or 5” squares forming patchwork. The squares are sewn in rows of 8 and then the rows are sewn together with the blocks offset so there’s no matching seams! How easy is that? Then the patchwork is “quilted” to the sweatshirt. The sleeves are covered with wide strips of the same fabrics used in the patchwork, or the sleeves can be left without fabric covering. (Be sure your sweatshirt coordinates with the color scheme of the patchwork!) A jazzy binding around all the edges completes the jacket, or apply an optional cuff. Use a variety of colorful fabrics, or your favorite color palette! Prints, batiks, solids, or a holiday selection – the choice is yours! Supplies needed: Sweatshirt one size larger than you normally wear, larger if you want more roominess, or a men’s size for more length. Must have set-in sleeves, not raglan sleeves. If you choose, you may leave the neck binding on for a closer fit at the neckline. 7 cotton fabrics approx. ½ to 1 yard each (for jacket fronts, backs and sleeves) **(Exact amounts will be sent with cutting instructions upon registration – also depends on whether you wish to use fabric to cover the sleeves.) 1/3 yard of contrasting fabric for binding Sewing machine in good working order, Walking foot for quilting, and ¼” foot for accurate piecing (optional – if you have them) Large fabric scissors Straight pins, chalk roller for marking, 1” basting safety pins, seam ripper, etc. Cutting mat and a rotary cutter with new blade. 6” x 24” acrylic ruler Thread for piecing, and (optional) decorative thread for quilting (6) Buttons 7/8” (optional) 1/3 yard of contrasting fabric for cuffs (optional) Class size is limited – Register promptly** – Deadline January 30th.
