"Advancing Sewing as an Art and Life Skill" Click to JOIN US The American Sewing Guild is a non-profit organization for people who love to sew. It is an organization for people who feel that sharing their joy of sewing with others is almost as much fun as sewing itself. The Guild provides up-to-date sewing information and a friendly support system for sewers at all levels of experience, and with a wide variety of sewing interests. Whether your passion is quilting, tailoring, wearable art, home dec, or whatever, the American Sewing Guild is for you! If it involves a needle and thread, we're there!
ASG Structure The National Headquarters of the American Sewing Guild is located in Houston, Texas and maintains membership and Chapter records. The National Headquarters provides leadership and a communication link to all of the Chapters making up the guild. The National Headquarters also provides a united voice whereby consumer opinions and desires can be communicated through a national organization to the sewing industry. Each year the National Headquarters hosts a national conference giving all Guild members a place to meet sewing professionals and other sewing enthusiasts from around the country and share in seminars and sewing related special events. The National Headquarters also produces a quarterly publication entitled Notions...filled with an inspiring variety of projects and tips, the latest sewing industry news, new products, introductions to sewing experts, and Guild news.
Guild Chapters The American Sewing Guild is made up of over 125 chapters each serving their surrounding area. The Chicago Chapter supports members throughout the entire Chicagoland area. The Chicago Chapters promotes sewing in the local community through encouragement, assistance and instruction. The chapter hosts special events such as our annual fashion show, sewing seminars featuring professionals that teach throughout the nation, and educational seminars that provide hands-on sewing instruction. The Chicago Chapter also provides our membership with opportunities to share their sewing skills with others through a variety of community service projects. Through the Chicago Chapter, members can increase confidence and expand individual skills at classes, demonstrations and lectures by experts.
Chapter Advisory Board Each Chapter operates under the guidance of a volunteer Chapter President and Chapter Advisory Board. The following Advisory Board members work to make the Chicago Chapter a successful organization: President, 1st Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Retail Liaison, Special Events, Member-at-Large, Industrial Liaison, Neighborhood Groups, Publicity, Membership, Education, and Newsletter. Members are encouraged to become actively involved with their Chapter by volunteering to be on one of the committees.
Neighborhood Groups At the heart of each Chapter are the monthly meetings of the Neighborhood Groups. The Chicago Chapter consists of 17 Neighborhood Groups that meet at different locations and times throughout the Chicagoland area. Local groups provide an informal opportunity for "hands-on" sewing experiences, friendly support, and a place to meet other Guild members to share sewing ideas and information. Lasting friendships are formed through the sharing of a common interest, sewing. Members may attend as many Neighborhood Group meetings as they wish.
